According to Gainesville legend, once a year a magical event awakens fairytales of long ago. Tucked away in the enchanted forest of the Alachua County Fairgrounds lies the medieval wonderland of Hoggetowne. Here, chivalrous knights fight for the honor of fair maidens, gypsies reveal fortunes, jugglers toss fire, magicians perform unbelievable feats and minstrels provide a backdrop of melodious fanfare to a spectacle of old-world games, arts, crafts, entertainment and feasting.

Watch a living chess game played by Arthur's Knights of the Round Table, and observe as blacksmiths, weavers, leatherworkers, woodcarvers, potters, and others demonstrate their skills. Shop at the busy medieval marketplace for gifts or trinkets, and feast on a meal fit for a king in the food court, where you can find sweet potato fries, blooming onions and famous giant turkey legs.

There is an assortment of rides for the kids, including human-powered push rides in keeping with medieval times, and rides on camels, ponies, or an elephant.

Faire hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturdays & Sundays and 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday. Ad-mission is $12 for adults, $6 for children ages 5-17 and free for children under 5.
